Trappers for Feral Cat Colonies

TRAPPERS

AHS has a robust Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program in which we work with homeowners who have feral colonies on or adjacent to their property. We also recruit volunteers to work with homeowners to trap their ferals. We have established 4 spay/neuter transports per month with 6-8 cats each sent to Catawba county for s/n and rabies shots.

-          Inexperienced trappers will be guided through the entire process which includes visiting the property and setting up traps two days before transport day. These are baited with high-value food but not set to close so that the ferals get comfortable going in and out to get the goodies. The morning before transport day, the trap is baited but set to close. Cats trapped that day generally need to be dropped off at the meeting site (typically Hardee's or Ingles) early the next morning (transport day) and picked up that afternoon. Sometimes trappers take on all these tasks (meeting for drop-off, pick up, overnighting trapped cats the night before transport, etc.,) and sometimes the property owners take on the responsibility of tasks outside of the actual trapping depending on the situation

-          If you are a property owner with a growing feral colony, volunteering to help trap unneutered/spayed on your property is a perfect opportunity to help us help you to control the feral population in our county.
