To report a stray animal, a missing pet, animal abuse or neglect, please call Ashe County Animal Control, the county’s only animal shelter and law enforcement at 336-982-4060 Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4  p.m. (leave a message).

At night, weekends or holidays Animal Control is “on call for emergencies only.” Emergencies are defined as animals that are gravely ill, seriously hurt, such as hit by a car, or very aggressive and could harm people or your own animals. If you have an emergency, please contact the Ashe County communication center at 336-846-5600​. For Wildlife Emergencies, contact Lees-McCrae Wildlife Center in Banner Elk at 828-898-2568 or the NC Wildlife Hotline at 866-318-2401.
