Joy Herschell holds winning ticket; Society raises over $850 with Fall Raffle

Thank you for making this year's raffle a big success.  Our final drawing was held Saturday, December 4 as heavy snows fell in West Jefferson.  Joy Herschell of Boone, NC purchased the winning ticket, taking home more than $560 in cold cash. The fundraiser generated more than $850 in revenue for our growing pet fostering program. Thank you!

Holiday Pet Portraits with Santa

They came with pups for Santa's lap.  Some wore caps, some wore hats.  One family even brought their rats.  Through the snow they chose to wade, and came to have their pictures made with Santa in his bright red suit to help our center make some loot for other pets in need of food, a loving home, a nice warm bed, a friendly lap to rest their head.   Merry Christmas one and all,  we couldn't do it without y'all.

Thanks a Ton!  Ashe County High School Students Donate 2,662 pounds of pet food!

In early November, members of the newly formed ACHS Interact Club loaded up their convoy of personal trucks and cars with over one ton of cat and dog food for delivery to the Ashe Humane Society.  The food was collected at the school over a two-week period, as the club’s first official community service project.

Students set up collection boxes, created posters, and engaged in a friendly competition among morning homeroom classes to see who could collect the most food.  Area cats and dogs came out the winners!

Bow Wow and Cat's Meow Drive for Animals

The children of Mrs. Field’s 1st grade class and Mrs. McClure’ 3rd grade class at Mountain View Emelentary School selected the Ashe Humane Society for its community service project.  They titled the event the Bow Wow and the Cat’s Meow Drive for Animals.  The children set up a station at the entrance of the school to receive donations for three weeks.  They colored pictures of animals being well treated and learned about the Ashe Humane Society’s goals.  To raise awareness of the needs of the organization, the children passed out flyers with the needs of the Ashe Humane Society listed on one side and fun facts about cats and dogs on the other.   The response from the whole school was tremendous.
